Personnel Changes in Education Ministry
Senior IAS officer Naresh Pal Gangwar has been appointed as the new Secretary for the Department of Higher Education. He replaces Vineet Joshi, who has been moved to the Ministry of Panchayati Raj. TK Anil Kumar is the new Secretary for the Department of School Education and Literacy. Official orders for these appointments were issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
These personnel changes are interpreted by some officials as a signal of the government's response to the NEET paper leak issue. One minister stated that the removal of the previous Secretary demonstrates seriousness regarding the matter. Strict action is promised against those responsible for the leak and any officials found negligent.
Government Response to NEET Leak
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pledged swift action against those involved in the NEET paper leak. He announced the formation of a fast-track court to expedite legal proceedings related to the case.
In a video message, the Prime Minister acknowledged the distress caused by the leak, particularly mentioning students affected by the situation. He confirmed that culprits have been apprehended and are in custody.
The decision to conduct a re-examination was made to prevent students from losing another academic year. The NEET exam was administered to over 22 lakh students, with government assurances of fair conduct. NEET results were declared on July 16, 2026.
Despite the announcement of successful candidates, the government has prioritized addressing the leak. The Prime Minister will chair a meeting to discuss the ongoing paper leak issue. Information gathered by authorities will be presented and discussed in today's cabinet meeting. A bill addressing paper leaks is expected to be introduced and passed in Parliament early next week, coinciding with the commencement of the parliamentary session's second week.
