Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has ordered strict action against National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) officials. The order follows a lapse in defending the council's decision to blacklist a paper supplier. Bafna Global Venture Private Limited appealed a two-year procurement ban. The firm appeared before the Delhi High Court on June 24 .

NCERT Blacklists Firm

NCERT issued a blacklisting order on June 22 . This barred Bafna Global Venture Private Limited for two years. The ban prevents the firm from participating in NCERT procurement processes. Procurement involves sourcing, negotiating, and acquiring goods or services.

Court Proceedings and NCERT's Absence

No NCERT representative attended the court hearing. The court granted the firm immunity from coercive action. This protection remains in place until further orders. The Delhi High Court also stayed NCERT's implementation of a over Rs 6 crore bank guarantee. This guarantee was furnished by the paper supplier.

Minister Directs Accountability

Minister Pradhan expressed serious concern. Reports indicated NCERT failed to defend its blacklisting decision. The minister directed strict action against responsible officers. He stressed accountability for legal and administrative lapses. This aims for greater accountability in textbook production and procurement.

NCERT to Investigate Selection Process

NCERT must examine its past decisions. The ministry wants to know how Bafna Global Venture was selected. This scrutiny includes allegations of not meeting requirements. NCERT will also investigate the firm's failure to adhere to supply schedules. The council's unrepresented court case is also under review.

Firm Cites Supply Chain Issues

Bafna Global Venture cited global events. The firm stated hydrogen peroxide was unavailable. This bleaching agent is used in paper manufacturing. Its scarcity was due to the war in Iran. This led to delays in textbook printing.

Court Hearing Scheduled

The Delhi High Court will hear the case again on July 20 .
