Minister Pradhan chaired a review meeting to address the issue. Officials assessed current book stock levels across states and union territories. Directives were issued to the NCERT and other relevant authorities to resolve the crisis.
Production and Distribution Directives
The NCERT must accelerate textbook production. The target is to print approximately 15 crore textbooks . Bulk printing should be completed by May 31, 2026 . Officials must improve coordination with state governments and distributors. The focus is on ensuring books reach rural and remote areas.
Digital Access Provided
Digital versions of the new textbooks are available. Students can access these on the e-pathshala and PM e-VIDYA platforms. This provides immediate access for learning.
Parent Frustration
Many parents have voiced frustration. They report physical copies are still absent from bookstores. This comes as exam results are declared and the new academic year starts.
