The University of Mumbai has launched an Apprenticeship-Embedded Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) program. This initiative integrates academic study with practical industry experience for final-year students. The program aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and AICTE guidelines. Approved by the university’s Academic Council, it allows eligible students to complete apprenticeships in their seventh and eighth semesters.
Program Details
The new Apprenticeship-Embedded Degree Programme (AEDP) aims to connect classroom learning with industry needs. Up to 15% of final-year B.E. students can participate. The program requires one year of apprenticeship training. This includes a minimum of 1,260 hours of practical work. Successful completion earns 42 academic credits.
What is the AEDP?
The AEDP combines academic coursework with structured workplace training. Students apply technical knowledge to real-world projects. This provides exposure to industry processes, modern technologies, and quality standards. It also teaches professional work practices.
Eligibility and Participation
Participation is limited to final-year B.E. students. Approximately 15% of these students are eligible. Apprenticeships occur during the seventh and eighth semesters. Interested students must check detailed eligibility criteria. These will be issued by the relevant university department or college.
Industry Exposure Benefits
Students will apply classroom concepts in practical workplace settings. This experience helps develop technical and professional skills. It also builds understanding of industrial engineering operations. The program prepares students for job market expectations before graduation.
