The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has officially asked the Madhya Pradesh government to increase the monthly stipend for MBBS interns. FAIMA proposed raising the stipend from the current Rs 14,337 to Rs 30,000 per month. The association submitted its request to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.
Stipend Demand Amidst Rising Costs
FAIMA cited the increasing cost of living and inflation as reasons for the demand. They also highlighted the demanding workload faced by medical interns. The current stipend, FAIMA stated, does not adequately support interns. This follows wider calls from intern doctors across the state for better pay.
MBBS interns perform essential duties in various hospital departments. These include outpatient departments (OPDs), inpatient wards, emergency units, and operation theatres. They also work in labor rooms and community health centers. FAIMA claims Madhya Pradesh offers one of the lowest stipends for interns compared to other states.
Interns Face Financial Strain
The current stipend of Rs 14,337 is insufficient for interns. They need to cover accommodation, transportation, and food costs. These expenses arise during their compulsory clinical training. Medical associations have pointed out that other states provide significantly higher stipends.
FAIMA is urging for parity with other states. They want interns to receive fair remuneration for their service. The association also requested discussions with intern representatives and medical associations. Timely stipend revisions aligning with inflation are key demands.
