The Madhya Pradesh government has successfully completed Aadhaar biometric updates for over 15 lakh (1.5 million) students across the state. This important initiative, named ‘Aadhaar for Students, Now at School’s Door’, aimed to make Aadhaar updates easier for students by bringing the services directly to schools. The update drive took place between August 15 and December 31, 2025 .

This program helps students avoid problems in their education journey. An updated Aadhaar card is a must for many key services, including school admissions, applying for scholarships, and receiving money directly from government schemes (Direct Benefit Transfer or DBT). It is also required for major exams like JEE and NEET , which use Aadhaar for checking student identities.

Why Aadhaar Update is Important for Students

Having an Aadhaar card with updated biometric information is now compulsory for several academic and financial benefits. This rule has become stricter as top exam bodies, such as the National Testing Agency (NTA) and UPSC, demand Aadhaar-based checks during exam applications and at test centers.

Benefits of an Updated Aadhaar:

  • School Admissions: Required for getting admitted into schools.
  • Competitive Exams: Essential for applying and appearing in national-level exams like JEE and NEET .
  • Scholarships: Helps students receive financial aid for their studies.
  • Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) Schemes: Ensures students get government benefits directly into their bank accounts.

What is an Aadhaar Biometric Update?

A biometric update involves updating your photograph, fingerprints, and iris (eye scan) information in your Aadhaar record. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has set rules for these updates:

  • The first mandatory update is needed when a child turns 5 years old .
  • The second mandatory update is required when a child turns 15 years old .
  • These updates are free of charge for children aged between 5 and 17 years .

How the Update Drive Worked in Madhya Pradesh

The ‘Aadhaar for Students, Now at School’s Door’ campaign was a joint effort. It was run by the School Education Department, the State Education Centre, and the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The goal was to make sure students could update their Aadhaar without difficulty.

  • The initiative started on August 15, 2025 .
  • More than 2,000 schools across Madhya Pradesh organized special camps for these updates.
  • By December 31, 2025 , over 1.5 million students had updated their biometrics. These updates happened at school camps and regular Aadhaar Seva Kendras.

To help schools manage the process, the UDISE+ portal was used. This portal, working with UIDAI and the Department of School Education and Literacy, Government of India, allowed schools to check which students still needed to update their Aadhaar. This made it easier to take action quickly.

The CBSE Regional Office in Madhya Pradesh also told all its affiliated schools to encourage parents and students to complete their pending biometric updates without delay.

Focus on Rural and Tribal Areas

Officials have stated that the Aadhaar update drive will continue until the end of the current academic year. The program will give special attention to schools in rural and tribal areas . This is to ensure that as many students as possible in these regions get their Aadhaar updated.
