The Ministry of Education (MoE) has launched a series of government initiatives aimed at increasing student enrollment and reducing dropout rates in government schools. These measures focus on improving school facilities, expanding residential options, and implementing new student tracking systems.
Government Enrollment Initiatives
The MoE is taking action to boost enrollment across the country. These steps include opening new schools and strengthening existing ones. The goal is to make government education more accessible and improve the learning environment.
Infrastructure and Residential Support
Key initiatives involve expanding and enhancing school infrastructure. This includes setting up and upgrading Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) up to Class 12. The government is also establishing residential schools named Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Avasiya Vidyalayas. Additional hostel facilities are being provided under the PM-JANMAN and DAJGUAT schemes.
These residential options aim to support students who may face challenges with daily commuting. They also provide a stable learning environment. Transport allowances are also being provided to help students reach schools.
Student Support and Learning Tools
The ministry is implementing programs to support student attendance and learning. Enrolment drives are underway to reach out to eligible students. Seasonal hostels and residential camps will be available for some students.
Vocational education and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities are being introduced in schools. Students will receive free textbooks and uniforms. The PM POSHAN Yojana provides hot cooked meals from Balvatika to Class 8.
Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK)
A central component of the strategy is the Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK). This system enables student tracking. It helps prevent dropouts by monitoring student progress. The VSK tracks students migrating between schools. It also monitors learning outcomes. Real-time data allows for intervention adjustments. This enhances teacher accountability.
APAAR ID
Students will receive an APAAR ID. This is a 12-digit lifelong identification number. It is linked to their Aadhaar number. This ID is part of the national 'One Nation, One Student ID' program. It aims to create a unified student database.
