The Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT CET) exam will now be conducted twice a year. This significant change will start from the 2026 academic session . This new rule applies to students who wish to get into engineering and MBA courses in Maharashtra.

Understanding MHT CET

The MHT CET is a crucial state-level entrance examination in Maharashtra. It serves as the gateway for admissions to various undergraduate professional courses, including Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in engineering and Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm). It also applies to postgraduate programs like Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Management Studies (MMS). Thousands of students rely on this exam each year to secure their places in colleges across the state.

New Exam Structure and Dates

The Higher and Technical Education Department of Maharashtra has put this new plan in place. For admissions to the 2026-27 academic year , students will find both attempts of the MHT CET exam scheduled between March and May 2026 . This timeframe allows candidates to take the exam within a focused period. Students will have the choice to appear for one or both of these sessions, giving them important flexibility in their examination strategy.

Future Exam Calendar: Longer Gaps Between Attempts

Looking ahead, from the 2027-28 academic session and onwards, the structure for the two MHT CET attempts will change. The exams will be spread out over a longer duration during the year. This method is similar to how national-level entrance examinations, such as the JEE Main, are conducted. By having more time between the two attempts, students may experience less pressure and have a better opportunity to prepare thoroughly for their second attempt, if needed.

Courses Included in the New Rule

This decision to hold the MHT CET twice a year directly benefits students applying for two major streams of higher education. It includes admissions to all engineering courses , which are a popular choice for science students after 12th grade. Additionally, the new rule also covers admissions to MBA and MMS programs , which are pursued by graduates looking for management education. This broad coverage ensures that many aspiring students will have these added opportunities.

Why This Change Helps Students

The MHT CET sees a very high number of participants annually. Each year, approximately 6 lakh candidates appear for the engineering and pharmacy entrance exams. For the MBA/MMS programs, about 1 lakh candidates take the test. Offering two attempts provides a significant benefit. If a student's performance in their first attempt does not meet their expectations, they are given a valuable second chance to achieve a better score. This system is designed to provide a fairer opportunity for students to demonstrate their knowledge and secure admission into their desired colleges and specific courses. It also helps in reducing the single-exam pressure often faced by students.

Crucial Point: Official Notification is Pending

It is very important for all students, parents, and educators to understand that the official notification from the MHT CET Cell regarding these changes is still awaited. While the plan has been announced by the Higher and Technical Education Department, the detailed guidelines and confirmations will only come with the official release. Students are strongly advised to regularly visit the official MHT CET website for the most accurate and up-to-date information. Relying only on preliminary announcements is not recommended.

Expected Release of Application Forms

The comprehensive notifications for both MHT CET and MAH MBA CET, which will include the exact dates for the release of application forms, are expected to be published in December . Once these official notifications are released, candidates will be able to access the application forms online and complete all the necessary registration steps. Students should prepare all required documents in advance to avoid last-minute rush once the application window opens.
