The Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) has announced a significant update for Class 10 students. From the upcoming academic session 2025 , all schools affiliated with MBOSE will start using textbooks published by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) for Class 10. This important decision is part of the state government’s wider effort to align its school education system with the National Curriculum Framework (NCF).
MBOSE has issued an official notice clearly stating that NCERT (Meghalaya Edition) textbooks will be adopted for all subjects taught under the Secondary School Curriculum. This means that students preparing for their Class 10 board exams from 2025 onwards will study from a standardized set of books, similar to those used in many other parts of India.
What is Changing for Class 10 Students?
Starting with the academic year 2025, students in Class 10 across Meghalaya will transition to these new textbooks. This change covers core subjects that are essential for secondary education. These subjects include Mathematics, Science, Social Science, and English . The older textbooks previously set by MBOSE for these subjects will be stopped. This ensures a complete shift to the new NCERT-based curriculum.
This move is a direct step towards fulfilling the state government's goal of aligning Meghalaya's education system with the National Curriculum Framework. The NCF provides a common structure and guidelines for education across India, aiming to improve the quality and relevance of learning for all students. By adopting NCERT books, Meghalaya schools will offer education that matches national standards.
A key benefit of this alignment is creating uniformity in the academic content. Students studying in Meghalaya will now cover similar topics and concepts as their peers in other states. This can be very helpful for students who might pursue higher education outside Meghalaya or appear for national-level entrance exams, as it ensures they have a consistent academic foundation.
Ensuring Uniformity Across School Levels
This introduction of NCERT textbooks for Class 10 builds on previous changes. MBOSE has already approved and implemented NCERT textbooks for Lower Primary (Classes 1-5) and Upper Primary (Classes 6-8) . Bringing Class 10 under the NCERT umbrella completes this process for key school levels, establishing a smooth and uniform learning path from primary grades through secondary school.
MBOSE has instructed all affiliated schools to make the necessary arrangements without delay. Schools must ensure that all students receive the new, revised NCERT textbooks well before the 2025 academic session begins. This timely distribution is important to allow students and teachers enough time to get familiar with the new content and prepare effectively for the upcoming academic year.
New Syllabus and Board Examinations
To support this transition, the Meghalaya Board has also released a completely updated syllabus and new sample papers specifically for Class 10. These new resources are based directly on the NCERT textbooks. Teachers and students are strongly advised to refer to these updated materials for all their teaching and learning activities.
The 2025 board examinations for Class 10 will strictly follow this revised NCERT-based framework. This means that exam questions will be set according to the new syllabus and the content covered in the NCERT textbooks. Schools are required to adapt their teaching methods and assessment practices to prepare students thoroughly for these new board assessments.
This significant educational reform aims to provide Meghalaya students with a robust and nationally recognized curriculum. It is a forward-looking step to ensure that students are well-prepared for their academic futures and can compete on an equal footing with students from other parts of the country. All students and educators must take note of these changes and prepare accordingly for the academic session 2025.
