Maharashtra Board Reduces SSC, HSC Exam Paper Length

The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) will shorten SSC and HSC exam papers. The new format will reduce paper length by 60%. This change aims to simplify exams and cut printing costs. Current 10-11 page papers will become 3-4 pages. The board expects to save approximately Rs 18 crore annually. Printing expenses are currently around Rs 30 crore .

Exam Paper Overhaul

MSBSHSE Chairperson Trigun Kulkarni announced the redesign. The goal is to lower costs. It also aims to use less paper. Students will find the papers easier to navigate. Questions will be organized more efficiently. Marks will be clearly stated. Sub-questions will stay on the same page.

Implementation and Results

The revised format applies to upcoming Maharashtra Board examinations. The board has not yet released specific subject guidelines. This change follows recent exam results. The 2026 SSC results showed a pass rate of 92.02% . The 2026 HSC results had a pass rate of 89.79% .
