The Embassy of India in Washington D.C. is accepting applications for the 89th Know India Programme (KIP). This two-week cultural exchange program is scheduled for September 15 to September 29, 2026 . The deadline to apply is August 27, 2026 .
Programme Details
The KIP aims to introduce young people of Indian origin to India's culture, arts, institutions, and current developments. Participants travel to India as guests of the Government of India. The program accommodates 25 participants per edition.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet specific age and residency requirements. The program has two distinct cohorts.
Cohort 1: Scholars and Innovators
- Age: 18 to 23 years as of September 1, 2026.
- Open to individuals engaged in scholarly pursuits or innovation.
Cohort 2: Young Professionals
- Age: 24 to 28 years as of September 1, 2026.
- Open to individuals in professional careers.
Applicants must reside within the Embassy of India, Washington D.C.'s jurisdiction: Bermuda, District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. Applicants from other U.S. states must apply through their respective Indian Consulates.

Interested individuals must submit an application form and supporting documents via email. The application link is available through the Embassy. Ensure all required documents are attached.

- Scanned copy of educational qualification certificate.
- Scanned copy of passport.
- One color passport-size photograph.
- Proof of Person of Indian Origin (PIO) or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) status.

Selection Process
The program seeks applications from Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) and eligible Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) globally. Preference is given to youth from 'Girmitiya' countries and NRIs in the Gulf region. In case of dropouts, candidates from the reserve list will be offered the opportunity.
