The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has issued a directive to educational institutions, prohibiting the demand for illegal capitation fees from students before seat allocation for KCET 2026. This applies to government quota seats in Engineering, Pharmacy, Agriculture, and Veterinary Science. The KEA aims to ensure financial transparency and protect students from exploitative admissions practices.
Colleges Must Adhere to Official Fees
All private professional colleges and deemed universities, including aided, unaided, and minority institutions, must comply with the directive. Colleges are only permitted to collect the government-sanctioned tuition fee as stated in the official allotment letter from KEA. They cannot include additional charges for uniforms, laboratories, or infrastructure.
Students Can Report Violations
The KEA has established a complaint cell to address violations. Students facing unauthorized fee demands or admission hurdles should formally register their grievances.
How to File a Grievance
Students experiencing issues should avoid verbal disputes. They must report to the designated grievance office located on the Ground Floor of the KEA Office in Malleshwaram, Bengaluru. A written complaint is required, detailing specific information rather than general allegations. The complaint must include the student's full name, contact details, the course and shift allotted, and the name of the offending institution. Tangible evidence, such as brochures demanding extra money or non-receipted fee memos, must be provided to support the grievance.
