Students in Karnataka will receive marks instead of grades for their third language subject in the 2026 SSLC exams . This decision comes after the Karnataka High Court ruled against the state government's plan to change the marking system. The court stated that such changes should be implemented from the start of the academic year, not in the middle of the exams.
Previously, the state government had suggested that the third language score would only be graded (like A, B, C, D) and would not count towards the total marks. This was intended to reduce pressure on students. However, following a petition by Class 10 students, the High Court intervened.
The High Court agreed with the students, saying that the rules for exams should not be changed while students are already taking them. This means the traditional marking system for the third language will continue for the 2026 SSLC results.
