The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has recently released important information for students seeking admission to postgraduate courses in Karnataka. KEA has announced the number of seats available for the second round of counselling for the Karnataka PGCET 2025. This means KEA has published a list showing how many seats are still open for various Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Computer Applications (MCA), and Master of Technology (M.Tech) programs.

There are a total of 21,909 postgraduate seats waiting to be filled through this second counselling round. While the list of available seats is now public, students must keep an eye out for the specific dates for this counselling round. KEA has stated that the counselling schedule will be announced soon on their official website,cetonline.karnataka.gov.in/kea/pgcet2025.

What is Karnataka PGCET Counselling?

For students aged 15-18, it's good to understand what "counselling" means in this context. Karnataka PGCET is an entrance exam for higher studies after graduation. After students pass this exam, they go through a "counselling" process. This is like an admission process where students choose their preferred colleges and courses based on their exam ranks. KEA organizes this to ensure fair admission for everyone.

Typically, there are multiple rounds of counselling. The first round fills many seats. However, some seats might remain empty if students don't join, or if new seats are added. This second round is conducted to fill all such vacant seats, giving more students a chance to get into a good college.

Detailed Look at Available Seats

KEA has published a detailed list, known as the 'provisional seat matrix', for this second round. This list shows the number of seats available for each specific course. These seats include:

  • Newly approved seats in some colleges.
  • Seats that were left empty (forfeited) by students from the first round.
  • Seats that were cancelled for various reasons.
  • Seats that became vacant because students who got a college in the first round chose "Option 3" (meaning they were satisfied but wanted to upgrade to a better college in the next round) or "Option 4" (meaning they were not satisfied and wanted to try in the next round).
This process ensures that all possible seats are offered to eligible students.

Course-wise Seat Distribution

Here is how the 21,909 seats are divided among the different postgraduate courses:

CourseSeats Available in Round 2
MBA (Master of Business Administration) 12,614
MCA (Master of Computer Applications) 5,602
M.Tech (Master of Technology) 3,693
Total Seats 21,909

Specifically for MCA, these 5,602 seats are spread across 187 colleges that take part in the PGCET admission process.

Important Steps for Students in Round 2

Students who are eligible for the second round of counselling need to know the next steps:

1. Waiting for Counselling Dates

The most important thing right now is to wait for KEA to announce the full schedule. This schedule will include dates for option entry, seat allotment, and reporting to colleges. Students must regularly visit the official KEA website for these updates.

2. Option Entry Process

Once the dates are out, students will be allowed to participate in the 'option entry' process. During this time, they can:

  • Add new colleges and courses to their preference list from the available seats.
  • Delete any choices they no longer wish to consider.
  • Modify the order of their choices to reflect their current preferences. This is very important as seat allotment depends heavily on the order of choices.
It is strongly recommended that students research colleges and courses well before this window opens, so they can make informed decisions quickly.

3. Provisional Seat Allotment Results

After the option entry period closes, KEA will process all the choices made by students. Based on the students' PGCET ranks, their chosen options, and the available seats, KEA will declare the 'provisional seat allotment results' for the second round. This result will tell each student which college and course they have been provisionally assigned.

Students must act quickly after these results are out to confirm their admission by paying fees and completing other formalities within the given deadlines.

Stay Updated

Students and their parents are encouraged to visit the official KEA website regularly for all the latest news and announcements regarding Karnataka PGCET 2025 Round 2 counselling. Missing any deadline could lead to losing a chance for admission.
