The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has cancelled the second list of seat allotments for postgraduate medical admissions, known as Karnataka NEET PG 2025 Round 2. This provisional list was first released on December 21, 2025 . The cancellation happened because doctors working in the Health and Family Welfare (HFW) department were given new options for specialized MD/MS courses.
Students who applied for these medical courses must now wait for a new list. The KEA will publish this 're-revised' result soon on its official website, cetonline.karnataka.gov.in .
Why Was the Seat Allotment List Cancelled?
The main reason for cancelling the Round 2 provisional list is a new rule for government doctors. These doctors, who serve in the HFW department, are now allowed to choose from certain important MD/MS courses. This change aims to give them more opportunities in postgraduate medical studies.
The courses newly opened for these serving candidates include:
- General Surgery
- General Medicine
- Radiology
- Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OBG)
Because these government doctors were given new choices, KEA decided to cancel the old list. This was done to ensure everyone, including these new eligible doctors, had a fair chance to select their preferred colleges and courses. All students who were part of Round 2 counselling got a chance to update their choices until 10 AM on December 22, 2025 .
Understanding Karnataka NEET PG Counselling
NEET PG is a national entrance exam that doctors take after completing their MBBS degree. It's the gateway to specialized postgraduate medical courses like MD (Doctor of Medicine) or MS (Master of Surgery). These courses allow doctors to become specialists in fields such as surgery, internal medicine, or radiology. The counselling process is how students gain admission to various government and private medical colleges in Karnataka, based on their ranks in the NEET PG exam. Students participate by filling in their choices of desired colleges and specializations. After a certain period, the KEA publishes a 'seat allotment' list. This list tells each student which college and course they have been provisionally assigned based on their rank and choices. Karnataka NEET PG counselling usually involves multiple rounds. This system helps to ensure that all available postgraduate medical seats across the state are filled efficiently and fairly, giving students different opportunities to secure a seat.
What Happens Next for Students?
With the previous list cancelled, KEA is now actively working to prepare and release the new, re-revised Round 2 seat allotment list. This new list will reflect the updated choices, including those made by the HFW department doctors. Students who had participated in the Round 2 counselling should remain alert and regularly check the KEA website for the latest announcements. Since the cancellation was recent, the new list is expected to be published very soon. Missing updates could mean missing out on crucial next steps in the admission process.
