Karnataka will add 1,122 new MBBS and BDS seats for the NEET UG 2026 admission cycle. The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare approved the expansion. This increase aims to improve medical education access in the state. The announcement came from Karnataka Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil. This development occurred at Vidhana Soudha.
Medical College Funding Boost
The state will also receive ₹1,090 crore in central funding. This money targets infrastructure upgrades at medical colleges. It will improve facilities in districts like Koppal, Gadag, Chamarajanagar, and Karwar. The funding supports expansion and institutional strengthening.
Impact on NEET Aspirants
The addition of over 1,100 seats is expected to ease competition. Lakhs of students apply for limited medical seats annually. This expansion could improve admission chances for many. It also expands access to medical education in underserved areas.
Admission Process Updates
The new seat matrix will be part of the NEET UG 2026 counselling. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) will conduct counselling. Aspirants should monitor official notifications. These will provide details on application and selection procedures. The exact dates for counselling are pending official release.
