JKBOSE Shifts Class 11 Practical Exams to Home Schools
The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has announced a significant change for its Class 11 students. Practical exams for theAnnual/Regular (Oct-Nov) session 2025will now be held in students' own schools. This new rule applies to students in theWinter Zoneof both Jammu and Kashmir divisions. The Board made this decision due to severe cold weather and very low temperatures expected in the region during the examination period.
This update means students will no longer need to travel to outside exam centres for their practical tests. They can complete these important exams directly at their affiliated schools. The main goal of this change is to protect students from harsh winter conditions and ensure better attendance for the exams.
Why the Change? Easing Student Hardship in Winter
Jammu and Kashmir experiences extremely cold weather, especially in October and November. Temperatures often fall below zero degrees Celsius. This cold weather makes travel difficult and sometimes unsafe for students. JKBOSE has taken this step to help students avoid these challenges. By moving practical exams to home schools, students will not face long and cold journeys. This also helps ensure that more students are able to appear for their practical exams without health or travel concerns.
How the New Practical Exam System Works
Under the revised system, all external practical exams for Class 11 will be conducted at the school where the student is currently studying. This rule applies to both government and private schools that are connected with JKBOSE. This makes it easier for students to access their exam venues.
Important Condition for Schools
For a school to host these practical exams, it must meet a specific condition: it needs to have at least25 studentstaking the same subject for which the practical exam is being held. If a school has fewer than 25 students in a particular practical subject, it may not be able to host the exams on its own campus. In such cases, these students might still need to go to an external exam centre, following earlier instructions from JKBOSE. Schools should check their student numbers for each practical subject immediately.
External Examiners Will Still Conduct Tests
Even with practical exams shifting to home schools, the examiners will come from outside the school. JKBOSE will appointexternal examinersto conduct these Class 11 practical tests. Schools are strictly not allowed to use their own internal teachers as examiners for these external practical examinations. This rule is in place to maintain fairness, transparency, and standard evaluation across all schools in the region.
Benefits for Students
This decision by JKBOSE offers several key benefits for Class 11 students in the Winter Zone:
- Less Travel:Students will save time and energy as they do not need to commute to distant exam centres.
- Increased Safety:It protects students from the risks and discomfort associated with travelling in severe winter cold.
- Comfortable Environment:Taking exams in a familiar school setting can help students feel less stressed and perform better.
- Better Attendance:The Board expects a higher turnout of students for practical exams due to easier access to exam venues.
What Students and Schools Should Do Next
Students preparing for theOct-Nov 2025practical exams should contact their respective schools for detailed instructions and schedules. Schools, on their part, must quickly prepare for these new arrangements. They need to ensure that their practical labs and necessary facilities are ready for the exams. Schools also need to understand and follow the rules about the minimum number of students per subject and the process for external examiner appointments.
