Ranchi students marched towards the Jharkhand Assembly on Monday, August 10, protesting alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations. The protest involves aspirants for exams conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).
Protesters Demand Independent Investigation
Students are calling for an independent Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe. They also demand the cancellation of three specific recruitment exams. Protesters seek transparency in the examination process.
The demonstration has continued for over two weeks. Talks between student representatives and the Jharkhand government have failed to meet key demands. Security is heightened across Ranchi in anticipation of the march.
Government Claims Progress on Demands
The Jharkhand government states that approximately 98% of the students' demands have been addressed. The government has offered to cancel three exams. Further measures include action by investigative agencies and a fast-track court process.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren urged dialogue to resolve issues. He promised transparency in addressing student concerns. Protesters dispute the government's claim of substantial progress.
JPSC Members Resign Amid Protest
Three members of the JPSC resigned on August 9. Their resignations were accepted by Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar. The members are Ajita Bhattacharya, Anima Hansda, and Jamal Ahmed. These resignations occurred during the ongoing student movement.
Security Measures in Place
Prohibitory restrictions are active around the Jharkhand Assembly. These orders are in effect from August 6 to August 12, daily between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. The restrictions cover a 750-meter radius of the Vidhan Sabha.
Police deployed additional personnel and established barricades. Razor fencing is in place at multiple locations. Similar restrictions are also in effect in Jamshedpur.
