Jharkhand schools have revised their timings. Classes now start at 7 AM. This change is effective from today. The state government ordered the shift. It aims to protect students from the heatwave. All government, private, and aided schools must follow the new schedule. This applies to all districts.
Revised School Timings
The new schedule splits classes by age group. Younger students attend shorter sessions. Older students have slightly longer school days. This ensures learning continues despite the heat.
KG to Class 8 students will attend school from 7 AM to 11:30 AM. This is a 4.5-hour school day.
Class 9 to Class 12 students will attend from 7 AM to 12 PM (noon). This is a 5-hour school day.
The Department of School Education and Literacy issued the directive. Ranchi District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner, Manjunath Bhajantri, confirmed the timings on April 20, 2026. The order cited the increasing impact of rising temperatures. A post on the DC Ranchi 'X' account detailed the changes.
| Class Group | Start Time | End Time |
| KG - Class 8 | 7:00 AM | 11:30 AM |
| Class 9 - Class 12 | 7:00 AM | 12:00 PM |
Staff Requirements
Teachers and non-teaching staff have different requirements. They must remain at school until 1 PM. This time is designated for non-academic tasks. Students are dismissed earlier, but staff supervision continues.
Other States Adapt to Heat
Jharkhand is not the only state adjusting school schedules. Odisha has also implemented early morning classes in several districts. Telangana has introduced mandatory water breaks. Schools there provide shaded areas. Outdoor activities are limited during peak heat.
