The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026 exams for January 22, 2026, are underway. Students are taking the exam across the country in two shifts. This is the second day of the JEE Main Session 1 exams for the year 2026. Many students are appearing to get into engineering colleges.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is conducting the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 exams. Today, January 22, 2026, is Day 2. Students are taking the B.E. and B.Tech papers. The exam is held in two time slots. Shift 1 is from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Shift 2 is from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

After the exam, students can find memory-based questions from both shifts on this page. This will help other students understand the exam pattern. We will also share student reactions and how difficult each subject was.

More than 14.5 lakh students have registered for this session of JEE Main. The competition to get seats in top engineering colleges like IITs, NITs, and IIITs is high. Students taking the exam today are focusing on solving math problems quickly. Chemistry questions are based a lot on NCERT books.

Student Reactions: Shift 1

Students who finished the first shift shared their thoughts:

  • Chemistry had many theory-based questions that were long.
  • Some questions in Chemistry were straightforward and used basic formulas.
  • Physics was found to be moderately difficult to difficult by many students.
  • Mathematics was considered easy by most students.
  • Overall, the exam was seen as moderately difficult.

JEE Main 2026: January 22 Question Paper Details

Below are some questions that students remembered from the Shift 1 exam on January 22, 2026. These are based on what students recalled after the exam.

Mathematics Questions (Memory-Based - Shift 1)

  • If the sum of 4 terms of an Arithmetic Progression (AP) is 6, and the sum of the first 6 terms is 4, what is the sum of the first 12 terms of the AP?
  • Solve for X in the equation: | X | X+4 | 3 |X+2 | + 10=0. Find the number of real solutions.
  • Let M be a set of numbers from 1 to 16. A relation R is defined on M where xRy means 4y = 5x - 3. How many elements need to be added to R to make it a symmetric relation?

Chemistry Questions (Memory-Based - Shift 1)

  • Match List 1 with List 2:
LIST 1 (Reaction)LIST 2 (Reagent)
ClemmensenZn-Hg/con.HCl
Wollf KishnerNH2-NH2/OH-
Tollen’s[Ag(NH3)2]OH
FehlingCuSO4.5H2O - NaOH + Rochelle's Salt
  • Statement 1: When Phenol reacts with chloroform in the presence of KOH, products P and Q are formed.
  • Statement 2: o-Salic Aldehyde and p-Salic Aldehyde can be separated using steam distillation.
  • Phenol + CHCL3 →KOH → P + Q
  • Which statement is correct? (Options provided were statements about the correctness of Statement 1 and 2).
  • Statement 1: Sucrose is dextrorotatory and becomes laevorotatory after hydrolysis.
  • Statement 2: Sucrose on hydrolysis gives glucose and fructose. The laevorotation of glucose is greater than the dextrorotation of fructose.
  • Which statement is correct? (Options provided were statements about the correctness of Statement 1 and 2).

Physics Questions (Memory-Based - Shift 1)

  • A projectile is thrown at an angle of 60° with a speed U. When its velocity makes an angle of 45° with the horizontal, its speed is 20 m/s. Find U.
  • Two discs have the same moment of inertia about their axis. Their thicknesses are t1 and t2, and they have the same density. If the ratio of their radii R1/R2 is 1/2, find the ratio of their thicknesses t1/t2.
  • Two thin circular rings are in the same plane and touch each other at a point. The first ring has a mass of 5kg and a radius of 10cm. The second ring has a mass of 10kg and a radius of 20cm. Find the moment of inertia of the combined system about a line passing through the point of contact and lying in the plane of the rings.

Coaching Institute Analysis

Coaching centers will release question papers and answer keys soon. Students can download PDFs from their websites. These will include physics, chemistry, and mathematics questions and solutions.

Exam Analysis for Future Shifts

The analysis of the January 22nd exam will help students appearing on January 23rd and 24th. It will show the pattern and difficulty level for the rest of Session 1.
