The Joint Entrance Examination (Main) 2026, known as JEE Main, Session 1, has started today, January 21, 2026 . The National Testing Agency (NTA) is conducting this important engineering entrance exam. The Session 1 exams will continue on January 22, 23, and 24, 2026 . Students must carry their admit card and follow all guidelines to enter the exam hall.
The JEE Main 2026 exam is held in two shifts daily. The morning shift is from 9 AM to 12 PM , and the afternoon shift is from 3 PM to 6 PM . Candidates must reach their exam centres well before the entry gates close.
What to Carry to the Exam Centre
Candidates must bring specific documents and items. Entry may be denied without these:
- A printed copy of the JEE Main admit card , downloaded from the official NTA website.
- One recent passport-size photograph . This photo must be the same as the one uploaded in the application form.
- A valid original photo ID proof . Accepted IDs include Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, Passport, Driving Licence, or School ID.
Special Instructions for Biometric Recording
Some candidates need to report earlier for biometric authentication. This applies to students who did not register using their Aadhaar card or chose a non-Aadhaar option for identity check. These students should arrive at least one hour before the gate closing time to complete the biometric process. They must also bring their own Geometry box set, pencils, erasers, and colour pencils or crayons.
Reporting Times and Exam Schedule
Students should reach their assigned exam centre at least 90 minutes before the exam begins. This allows enough time for all necessary checks like verification, frisking, and biometric authentication. Gates close 30 to 45 minutes before the exam starts. No candidate will be allowed entry after the gates close.
