The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released two important updates for students planning to take the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026 Session 1. The NTA has started the process for candidates with disabilities to register for a scribe or reader. At the same time, the agency has made the advance city intimation slips available. These slips tell students the city where their exam will take place and its date. The JEE Main 2026 Session 1 exams are scheduled to run from January 22 to January 29, 2026 .
Scribe Facility for Candidates with Disabilities (PwBD)
The NTA has opened the scribe registration facility for students with benchmark disabilities (PwBD). This means students who have difficulty writing, reading, or appearing for the exam on their own due to a disability can ask for help. They can request a scribe (writer), reader, or lab assistant.
Who Can Apply for a Scribe?
- Candidates who cannot write on their own due to a specific benchmark disability.
- This includes students with blindness, locomotor disability (where both arms are affected), and cerebral palsy.
- Students who write very slowly due to a disability can also apply.
How to Apply for a Scribe
To use this facility, eligible students must apply online. They need to go to the official JEE Main website and log in with their application number and password. The NTA will provide a scribe, reader, or lab assistant to all eligible candidates who apply for this support.
Rules for Other Disabilities
If a student has a benchmark disability that is not specifically listed above (like blindness or both arms affected), they can still get a scribe. For this, they must provide a special certificate. This certificate must state clearly that the student has a physical condition that prevents them from writing, and that a scribe is essential for them to take the exam. This certificate must be obtained from a government health institution, signed by a Chief Medical Officer, Civil Surgeon, or Medical Superintendent.
Bringing Your Own Scribe
Students also have the option to bring their own scribe. If you choose to do this, the person you bring as a scribe must have a qualification that is one step lower than your own qualification for JEE Mains. For example, if you are appearing for JEE Mains after Class 12, your scribe should not have passed Class 12 or an equivalent exam. You must also submit the details of your chosen scribe using a specific form (proforma) provided by the NTA.
JEE Main 2026 Session 1: City Slip and Exam Dates
The NTA has also released the advance city intimation slips for JEE Main 2026 Session 1. This slip is very important because it informs candidates about the city where their exam centre will be located and the exact date of their exam. This information helps students make travel plans in advance.
How to Download Your City Intimation Slip
Candidates can download their city intimation slip by visiting the official JEE Main website, jeemain.nta.nic.in . You will need to log in using your application number and password to access and download your slip.
What the City Slip Contains
The city intimation slip will show your specific exam date and the name of the city where your test centre is. It is important to remember that this slip does not provide the full address of your exam centre. The complete address of the JEE Main exam centre will only be available on your admit card. The NTA expects to release the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 admit cards on or before January 18, 2026 .
JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Exam Dates
The NTA has confirmed the exact dates for the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 exams. Students should note these dates:
| Exam Type | Dates |
