The JEE Main 2026 Day 1, Shift 2 exam for engineering admissions was held on January 21, 2026 . The exam took place from 3 PM to 6 PM. Experts who reviewed the question paper found it to be of moderate to tough difficulty. This is similar to the first shift of the exam held earlier that day.
Different sets of questions are used for each exam shift to ensure fairness. Subject experts have analysed the Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics sections based on feedback from teachers and educators.
The JEE Main 2026 exam is being conducted for candidates seeking admission to engineering (BE/BTech) courses. Paper 1 exams started on January 21 and will continue on January 22, 23, 24, and 28. Exams for BArch and BPlanning (Paper 2) are scheduled for January 29, 2026.
Exam Section Analysis
Physics
Subject experts found the Physics section to be moderately difficult. Amit, a teacher from a Delhi coaching centre, called it moderate. Sakunth Sir noted that questions from thermodynamics were included. Ananya mentioned that many physics questions were based on formulas. Students who had prepared well for topics like capacitors, modern physics, and ray optics were likely to perform better.
Chemistry
The Chemistry section was generally seen as easier than the Physics section. Ahana from Bangalore found it easier compared to Shift 1. Anil stated that the section was manageable and focused mainly on organic chemistry. Mahindra from UP suggested that students who studied NCERT textbooks thoroughly would find this section easier.
Mathematics
The Mathematics section was considered challenging and lengthy. Aditi, an academic counsellor, described it as lengthy but manageable. Sikhar from Delhi reported questions from calculus and vectors. Amita felt that, like the first shift, mathematics was tough, and students needed good time management to complete it.
Difficulty Level Summary
| Section | Difficulty Level |
