The National Testing Agency (NTA) has started registrations for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026. This year, NTA has made important changes to how the computer-based test (CBT) will be conducted. These updates include adding an on-screen calculator, a screen magnifier, and a special accessibility mode for students. Students can apply for the Session 1 exam until November 27, 2025 . The exam is scheduled to take place between January 21 and 30, 2026 .

New On-Screen Calculator Introduced

For the first time, students taking the JEE Main 2026 exam will be able to use an on-screen calculator. This calculator will appear directly on the computer screen during the exam. It will help students with different mathematical tasks.

How the Calculator Works

  • The calculator can perform basic tasks like addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication .
  • It also has functions for finding square roots and calculating percentages .
  • This tool aims to help candidates complete their calculations more quickly and accurately.
  • The calculator will be available for use throughout the entire exam. This means students will not need to do complex calculations by hand, saving important time during the test.

Screen Magnifier for Better Viewing

Another new feature for the JEE Main 2026 computer-based test is the screen magnifier. This tool is designed to help students view exam content more clearly if they need to.

Using the Screen Magnifier

  • Students can move their mouse cursor over any part of the screen they want to see larger.
  • This will enlarge that specific section, making it easier to read questions, diagrams, or answer options.
  • This feature is helpful for students who might find it difficult to read small text or see details on the screen. It allows for a more comfortable and focused exam experience.

Accessibility Mode for Customised Display

NTA has also added an 'Accessibility' mode for JEE Main 2026. This mode offers several options to help students adjust their screen display to their comfort and needs.

Options in Accessibility Mode

  • Dark Mode or Light Mode: Candidates can choose between a dark background with light text or a light background with dark text. This can reduce eye strain, especially during long exam periods.
  • Font Size Adjustment: Students can increase or decrease the size of the text shown on the screen. This ensures that everyone can read the text easily.
  • Cursor Trail and Size: This feature lets candidates turn on or off a visible trail behind their mouse cursor. They can also select how big the cursor appears. A clear cursor trail can help some students follow their mouse pointer more easily.

These accessibility features aim to make the exam environment more flexible and user-friendly for all candidates.

Registration Process Updates

The registration process for JEE Main 2026 Session 1 also has a change. This year, NTA will get some candidate information directly from their Aadhaar cards . This step aims to make the application process simpler and ensure that the details are correct. Students must make sure their Aadhaar information is accurate before applying.

JEE Main 2026 Exam Schedule

The JEE Main 2026 exam for Session 1 will be held from January 21 to January 30, 2026 . There will be two exam shifts each day to allow all candidates to take the test.

Exam Shift Time
Shift 19:00 AM to 12:00 PM (Noon)
Shift 23:00 PM to 6:00 PM

NTA will announce the exact exam date, time, and test centre for each student later. This information will be available on the JEE Main 2026 admit card. Students should check their admit cards carefully once they are released.

All candidates planning to take the JEE Main 2026 exam should visit the official NTA website for full details and to apply before the deadline of November 27, 2025 . Understanding these new changes will help students prepare better for the examination.
