Heavy rain is forecast across India's north, northeast, west, and south today. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued the alert as the active southwest monsoon continues. Authorities are monitoring flood-prone and landslide-prone areas.

States expected to receive significant rainfall in the next 24 hours include Uttarakhand, Kerala, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and parts of Northeast India.

IMD Rainfall Forecast: States Likely to Receive Heavy Rain

The IMD predicts heavy showers in specific regions. In Uttarakhand , Dehradun, Nainital, Tehri Garhwal, and Pauri Garhwal may experience heavy rainfall. This could lead to landslides and road disruptions.

Himachal Pradesh faces moderate to heavy rainfall, particularly in its hill districts. Kerala will see widespread rain with isolated heavy downpours due to an active monsoon.

Assam expects heavy rainfall in several districts. Officials are monitoring river levels and low-lying areas. Maharashtra 's Konkan, Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Ghat regions are likely to receive moderate to heavy rain.

Goa may experience heavy rainfall at isolated places. Gujarat anticipates intense rain spells in its southern regions and adjacent areas. Coastal and interior districts of Odisha are set for moderate to heavy rainfall.

Chhattisgarh anticipates thunderstorms with rainfall. Northeastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, are also likely to experience widespread rain.

Delhi-NCR Weather Update

Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad can expect cloudy skies with light to moderate rain. Heavy rainfall is not predicted for the entire region. However, isolated areas might face brief, intense showers, potentially causing traffic jams and waterlogging.

School Holiday Updates: August 5, 2026

As of now, no state government has announced a blanket school holiday for August 5, 2026. School closures will be determined by district administrations based on local conditions and safety concerns. Parents and students should monitor official announcements from their local authorities.

The following table summarizes the forecast and potential holiday status:

The active southwest monsoon, supported by favorable atmospheric conditions and monsoon trough activity, drives the current rainfall patterns. These systems bring moisture across large parts of the country, leading to frequent rain spells.

Continuous rainfall can disrupt transportation and cause waterlogging. Local administrations will assess the severity of weather conditions. Decisions on school closures or traffic diversions will be made accordingly.
