O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) recently welcomed top officials from the University of Tokyo (UTokyo) for a big meeting. This event, called the India-Japan Higher Education Conclave 2025, aims to make education and research stronger between the two countries. The UTokyo team is on a six-day visit to India, stopping in Delhi , Ahmedabad , and Bengaluru . Their visit will end on December 12, 2025 .

JGU is the only Indian university that has a direct partnership with the University of Tokyo. JGU also has over 25 other partnerships with leading Japanese colleges. These ties help students and teachers travel between countries for studies and work. They also start new research projects and make education in both nations more global.

Future of Global Education

The main topic of the India-Japan Higher Education Conclave is "Future of Global Education: India and Japan as Leaders of Knowledge and Innovation." This conclave is a big gathering where university heads, government officials, teachers, and students talk about how education is changing around the world. They also discuss how India and Japan can work together.

Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, who founded JGU and is its Vice Chancellor, spoke at the event. He said, "This visit helps JGU's plan to connect with East Asian countries. It places higher education at the heart of the strong friendship between India and Japan." He added that this partnership will open new doors for research, exchange of scholars, and strong academic links. These links will directly support shared goals in education, technology, and new ideas. He believes universities should connect societies and share knowledge globally.

Key Discussions and Plans

The tour includes important discussions, visits to universities, press events, and networking events in all three cities. The goal is to create a long-term plan for teaching, research, and new ideas between India and Japan.

Each city will host special meetings. These meetings will show India's strengths in education and Japan's plans to work with other countries. The events will help start new joint courses, research projects, and training programs for global education and student exchange. The UTokyo team wants to work closely with Indian partners on global education, diversity, and strong academic ties.

Professor Hayashi, Executive Vice President for Global and Diversity Affairs at the University of Tokyo, shared her university's vision. She spoke about making education more global, including different cultures, and rethinking partnerships. She said, "I was very happy to visit the JGU campus again. I saw its new additions, like the Museum of Constitution and the Moot Court." She was impressed with JGU's focus on diversity and inclusion. She added, "I see great potential in future collaborations between UTokyo and JGU, and other universities in Japan and India. Both are important Asian countries that value democracy."

Professor (Dr.) Yujin Yaguchi, Vice President for Global Education at UTokyo, led talks on how to design academic paths and student exchange programs. He also discussed joint and dual degree courses between Indian and Japanese universities. He explained how these plans can help students learn in different education systems, build skills to work across cultures, and help with joint research. He said, "I am very excited to see the education work between JGU and UTokyo. We value JGU's effort to send students to Japan to broaden their views. We also look forward to giving our students more chances to experience your exciting campus." He believes that friendships made between students will make the bond between India and Japan even stronger.

Areas of Cooperation

During the India tour, leaders from JGU and UTokyo looked at new ways to work together. Key areas for cooperation include:

  • Student and teacher exchange programs across different subjects and study levels.
  • Developing joint degree and dual degree programs, as well as shorter exchange programs.
  • Creating research projects that use the strengths of both countries.
  • Setting up new ways of teaching and learning, such as shared courses, joint seminars, and online learning initiatives.

Professor (Dr.) Akhil Bhardwaj, Vice Dean for International Affairs at JGU, said, "This three-city India tour with UTokyo will build strong foundations for long-term teamwork. This includes exchanging faculty, student mobility programs, and shared projects connecting universities, industries, and governments." He added that by working together with respect, they aim to create opportunities that benefit students and researchers in both countries.

This visit is expected to create a clear plan for making the JGU-UTokyo partnership stronger. It will also advance a shared vision for strong India-Japan higher education links that help global knowledge and innovation.
