Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have introduced new undergraduate programs for the 2026 admission cycle. These courses focus on Artificial Intelligence, Design, and Computational Engineering. The expansion aims to align academic offerings with current industry demands and future technological advancements. JEE Advanced 2026 results were released on June 1, 2026, by IIT Roorkee, followed by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling process.
New IIT Programs for 2026 Admissions
IIT Madras launched two new B.Tech programs for the 2025-26 academic session: Computational Engineering and Mechanics, and Instrumentation and Biomedical Engineering. These courses are designed to meet industry needs in AI-driven engineering, advanced manufacturing, medical devices, and healthcare technology. Both programs are available through JoSAA counselling.
IIT Delhi introduced a Bachelor of Technology in Design. This program integrates technology, creativity, design thinking, and problem-solving skills. Admission to IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Design requires qualifying both the JEE Advanced and the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED).
These additions signal IITs' move towards offering more interdisciplinary study paths. Students now have broader options beyond traditional engineering disciplines.
JoSAA Counselling Details
JoSAA is managing admissions for 138 institutes in the 2026 cycle. This includes 23 IITs, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru, 31 National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST) Shibpur, 26 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and 56 other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs).
Students are advised to compare course content, career scope, and institute reputation. Personal interests should also guide their choices. IIT and IISc admissions are based on JEE Advanced 2026 ranks. NIT+ system admissions depend on JEE Mains 2026 ranks.
Candidates should carefully review the program list and eligibility criteria. Filling out choices in the correct order is essential before confirming preferences.
