IIT Roorkee Launches Online Quantum Computing, AI/ML Course

IIT Roorkee has started a new online course called the Advanced Certificate in Quantum Computing: Algorithms and AI/ML . This course is designed to help working professionals learn new skills for the future of technology. Applications for this program are open until November 23, 2025 .

Quantum computing is a new and powerful way of computing that uses the strange rules of very tiny particles. It promises to solve problems much faster than today’s computers. This field is growing quickly and will change how we use technology in many areas, from healthcare to finance.

About the Online Program

The program is six and a half months long and is offered completely online. It comes from the Continuing Education Centre (CEC) of IIT Roorkee , working with TimesPro. The main goal is to prepare people for new jobs in quantum research, secure technologies, and advanced AI. Students will learn to code and test advanced quantum computer programs and use quantum machine learning for real-world tasks.

What You Will Learn

This program will teach you how quantum computers work and how to build programs for them. You will start by understanding quantum internet rules and how to send secure messages. Then, you will move to learning about quantum machine learning, which makes artificial intelligence even smarter.

The course includes hands-on projects where you will use special tools like Qiskit , PennyLane , and real quantum systems from IBM and D-Wave . You will apply what you learn to important areas such as:

• Helping financial companies make better decisions
• Finding new medicines and treatments in healthcare
• Solving complex planning and logistics problems
• Improving drug discovery processes
• Making image recognition better

Course Modules

The program has five main parts:

• Introduction to Quantum Computing and Applications: Learn the basics of quantum computing and where it can be used.
• Quantum Algorithms and Software: Understand how to write programs for quantum computers, including important algorithms like Shor’s , Grover’s , and Simon’s algorithms.
• Quantum Communications and Networks: Study how quantum technology can be used for super-secure communication, like Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and quantum cryptography.
• Quantum Machine Learning: Discover how quantum computing can boost artificial intelligence and machine learning.
• Quantum Machine Learning Applications: Apply quantum machine learning models, such as QSVMs , QNNs , and Quantum GANs , to practical problems.

Program Format and Certificate

The course offers more than 300 hours of learning . This includes online classes, homework, case studies, and a final 30-hour Capstone Project . This project will help you use all the skills you have learned on a real problem. There is also an option to visit the IIT Roorkee campus.

After successfully completing the program, you will receive a certificate from the CEC, IIT Roorkee .

The market for quantum computing is growing very fast. In 2024 , it was valued at about USD 1.42 billion . Experts believe it will grow to USD 4.24 billion by 2030 . Prof. Kaushik Ghosh , Coordinator of CEC, IIT Roorkee , mentioned that the program is designed to connect theory with practical use. He said it prepares engineers and researchers to turn new quantum ideas into real working systems, especially in areas like security, optimization, and handling large amounts of data in finance and healthcare.
