The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna is providing a wonderful chance to engineering students through its 2025 Summer Internship Program, which is being hosted by the Foundation for Innovators in Science and Technology (FIST). The program is being conducted under a special program named NIDHI-TBI, which is funded by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India.
The internship is for those who wish to live through real-world scenarios through interactions with startups and innovators. FIST is a Section-8 (not-for-profit) company that assists startups in their growth in domains such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), DeepTech, HealthTech, Electric Vehicles (EVs), Agriculture Technology (AgriTech), Clean Energy, and more.
Throughout the internship, the students will have the opportunity to work alongside these startups in close vicinity and observe how products are conceived, tested, and perfected. It is a great experience to be involved with new developments and tackle real problems.
Internship Duration and Location
The internship will be undertaken in the summer of 2025 and will continue for approximately 2 to 3 months. The students will work from the FIST Office, situated on the 5th Floor of Block-9 of the IIT Patna campus in Bihta, Patna, Bihar (PIN – 801106).
What Will Interns Work On?
Interns will be assigned projects that are focused on using technology to solve fundamental problems. Some of the focus areas include:
- Smart agriculture equipment and farm drones
- Equipment to check the quality of organic food
- New food distribution systems for smart delivery
- Water quality technology
- Clean and green energy projects
- Greening and smart city innovations
- Use of AI, machine learning, and IoT in solving different issues
Who Can Apply?
This internship is available for students who are pursuing the 2nd year or the 3rd year of the B.Tech program. Students of the following branches are eligible:
- Computer Science / Information Technology / Artificial Intelligence & Data Science
- Electrical / Electronics & Communication
- Mechanical / Civil / Environmental / Agriculture
- Chemical / Biochemical / Water Resources
- Metallurgical and Materials Engineering
The applicants should have a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent CGPA in the current course.
The students should be effective in both English and Hindi communications, gain skills in handling tools like MS Office, WebEx, and Google Meet, and also function independently. Proficiency in acquiring technical skills in programming, CAD, hardware, or prototyping would be an asset.
Responsibilities of interns
During internment, the short-listed students were of benefit to startups in the following ways. Some of the tasks that the interns would perform are:
- Maintenance of research and development of products
- Designing software with software such as SolidWorks, or AutoCAD
- Working with tools such as 3D printers and CNC machines
- Programming microcontrollers such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and ESP32
- Construction of apps and websites using programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, Java, or C++
- Development of IOT systems and hardware testing
- Working on AI/ML and environmental solution projects

2. Copy a No Objection Certificate (NOC) of their college/university. The NOC should be signed on the letterhead by the Head of Institution, indicating that the student is permitted to undergo the internship.

Selection Process
Shortlisting of candidates will be done after the lapse of the application deadline based on their academic background and technical ability. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an online interview. Final selection will be done based on their performance during the interview and their aptitude for the projects.
Stipend and Other Benefits
No mention of a stipend is made in the official announcement, and students may consider it as an unpaid internship unless they are otherwise notified during the selection time. Additionally, no travel allowance or accommodation will be given.
However, after successfully completing the internship, students will be given an official certificate issued by FIST, IIT Patna, which will prove to be extremely useful while filling their resume.
