The application portal for the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) M.Tech programs for the 2026-27 academic year is now open. Interested candidates can apply online at mtechadm.iitm.ac.in .
The deadline to submit applications is April 27, 2026 . Applicants must have valid scores from the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2024, 2025, or 2026.
Registration on the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) is mandatory. Applicants need a COAP ID to view and accept admission offers.
The application fee is ₹400 for General, EWS, and OBC-NCL candidates. Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) applicants will pay a subsidized fee of ₹200 .
Application Process
Prospective students must follow a six-step application procedure.
- Portal Registration: Register on the IIT Madras admissions website, mtechadm.iitm.ac.in.
- COAP Enrollment: Register separately on the COAP portal.
- Application Form: Complete the application, selecting M.Tech specializations and entering academic details and GATE scores.
- Document Upload: Submit scanned copies of degree certificates, category certificates, GATE scorecard, photograph, and signature.
- Fee Payment: Pay the application fee online.
- Final Submission: Review and submit the application before the April 27, 2026 deadline.

Eligibility Criteria
Admission to the M.Tech programs is primarily based on GATE scores. However, other categories exist.
GATE Qualified Candidates
Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, or Architecture, or a Master’s degree in Science or Mathematics. A valid GATE 2024, 2025, or 2026 score is required.
IIT Graduates
Holders of a B.Tech degree from any IIT are eligible. They require a minimum CGPA of 8.0 on a 10-point scale. A GATE score is not mandatory for this category.
Sponsored Applicants
These candidates require valid sponsorship from organizations like DST, government bodies, PSUs, NIOT, or AICTE units. A minimum of two years of work experience with the sponsoring organization is necessary.
International Applicants
Must hold a degree from a recognized foreign university. A four-year Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent is required, along with English proficiency.
IIT Madras offers M.Tech specializations in areas such as Data Science and AI, Electric Vehicles, Robotics, and Semiconductor Materials Technology. Traditional engineering disciplines like Aerospace, Chemical, Civil, Mechanical, and Ocean Engineering are also available.
