Top Companies Joined the Drive
Many big companies took part in the placement process. These included well-known global technology and finance firms. Some of the companies that offered jobs to IIT Kharagpur students include:
- Apple
- Microsoft
- Amazon
- Goldman Sachs
Besides these, other types of companies also participated. These included companies that make software products, firms dealing in trading and investments, and DeepTech companies. DeepTech includes advanced technology areas like semiconductors (used in electronic devices) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) infrastructure (the systems that power AI). Research and Development (R&D) focused engineering companies also recruited students.
New Trends in Hiring
Experts watching the job market say that there is a change in what companies are looking for. Earlier, many jobs were in general software development or consulting. Now, companies are searching for students with very specific and high-level skills. This shift is happening because there is a strong demand for graduates who are experts in new technologies.
The skills now in high demand include:
- Applied AI: Using Artificial Intelligence to solve real-world problems.
- High-Performance Computing: Designing and using very fast computer systems for complex tasks.
- Systems Engineering: Building and managing complex systems like computer networks or large software projects.
- Quantitative Methods: Using advanced mathematical and statistical skills for data analysis and problem-solving, often in finance or data science.
This means that students with deep knowledge in these areas are getting more job opportunities and better packages.
Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) Boost Numbers
Many students received what are called Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs). These are job offers given to students even before the main placement season begins, usually after they complete successful internships. Many of these PPOs came from internships at global research labs and specialized teams within companies. These early offers helped increase the overall number of placements and also contributed to the higher salary packages seen this year.
Support for Students During Placements
IIT Kharagpur also made sure to support students during the busy and often stressful placement period. The institute set up special "recharge zones" on campus. These zones were for students to relax and take a break. They also provided counselling support to help students manage any stress related to the intense recruitment days.
More Information to Come
The Career Development Centre at IIT Kharagpur has stated that this placement drive is balanced. Their main aim is to help students find jobs that are a good fit for their long-term career goals, rather than just focusing on very high starting salaries. However, the institute has not yet released a full report with all placement details. This detailed report, which students and others usually look forward to, would include:
- Offers made by each company.
- How many students from each engineering branch got jobs.
- The median and average salary packages.
- A clear breakdown of jobs in India versus international offers.
This full information is expected to be released soon.
