IIT Kharagpur has launched an Artificial Intelligence (AI) learning center in Houston, Texas. The Texas AI Learning Centre officially opened at the Tagore Centre. This initiative aims to boost AI education and skill development. It also seeks to foster industry-focused AI solutions.
New AI Hub Opens in Houston
The centre’s launch coincided with India’s 80th Independence Day celebrations. It also marked IIT Kharagpur’s 75th anniversary . The opening ceremony featured key figures. India’s Consul General in Houston, DC Manjunath , inaugurated the center. Dr. Ashoke Deysarkar, co-founder of the Tagore Centre Foundation and president of the IIT Kharagpur Foundation, was also present. IIT Kharagpur Director, Professor Suman Chakraborty, attended the event.
Consul General Manjunath highlighted the growing technology partnership between India and the U.S. He stated that AI can create new opportunities. He mentioned the project involved a year of effort. Manjunath expressed hope for the centre's future growth. He envisioned it becoming a full overseas IIT Outreach Centre.
A video message from U.S. Consul General in Kolkata, Kathy Giles Diaz, welcomed the partnership. HCL Tech co-founder and IIT alumnus Arjun Malhotra pledged support. He offered to help expand the centre's reach.
Focus on AI Training and Solutions
Professor Suman Chakraborty described the centre as a potential Pan IIT platform. It will connect alumni and global partners. The centre will support professional development programs. It will also address complex industry challenges. Practical AI learning is a core focus.
The Texas AI Learning Centre began operations with a two-day AI certificate bootcamp. The bootcamp was led by Dr. Debyajoti Banerjee. He is a professor at Texas A&M University. The event drew IIT alumni and technology professionals. Representatives from Harris County Commissioner Lesley Briones' office also attended.
The new center is expected to enhance AI learning and industry training. It aims to strengthen India-U.S. cooperation in the AI field.
