The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur will launch a new four-year Bachelor of Cybersecurity program in July 2026. The program aims to address the growing demand for cybersecurity professionals.
This new undergraduate course will be offered by the Wadhwani School of AI and Intelligent Systems. It is designed to equip students with skills to protect digital systems and national security.
Admission Process
Admission will not require the JEE Advanced exam. Instead, students will be selected based on their JEE Main scores. Applicants must also provide proof of prior work in cybersecurity.
Shortlisted candidates will undergo an in-person assessment at the IIT Kanpur campus. This assessment will include a practical hackathon. Details regarding eligibility and application procedures will be available on a dedicated program webpage next week.
Course Structure
The Bachelor of Cybersecurity program combines academic study with practical training. The initial two years will focus on foundational cybersecurity concepts through classroom lectures and laboratory work on campus.
The final two years will involve internships with government security organizations. Students will participate in real cybersecurity projects and security challenges during this phase.
IIT Kanpur Director Manindra Agrawal stated that cybersecurity is critical for safeguarding digital infrastructure. Nitin Saxena, Dean of the Wadhwani School of AI and Intelligent Systems, noted the program's focus on balancing theory and practical application to train skilled professionals.
