The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur will launch a new four-year Bachelor of Cybersecurity program. Admissions begin in the 2026-27 academic session. The Wadhwani School of AI and Intelligent Systems will offer the course starting July 2026.
Admission Process
Admission to the cybersecurity program will not use JEE Advanced. Instead, candidates must meet two criteria. First, they need a qualifying JEE Main score. Second, they must show proof of prior cybersecurity work. Selected candidates will then attend an in-person assessment at IIT Kanpur. This assessment will include a practical hackathon.
Full details on eligibility and applications are forthcoming. IIT Kanpur is preparing a dedicated webpage for the program. This page is expected to be live next week.
Course Structure
The Bachelor of Cybersecurity program blends academic study with hands-on experience. The first two years focus on foundational concepts. Students will attend classroom lectures and lab sessions on campus. This builds core knowledge in a controlled environment.
The final two years involve practical internships. Students will work with government security organizations. They will participate in real-world cybersecurity projects. They will also tackle security challenges.
IIT Kanpur Director Manindra Agrawal stated that cybersecurity is vital for digital infrastructure. He highlighted its importance for national systems. Nitin Saxena, Dean of the Wadhwani School of AI, added that the program balances theory and practice. This prepares graduates for industry demands.
