IIT Delhi will start a new B.Tech in Design program in the academic year 2026 . Students interested in joining this program can attend an online Open House on Sunday, October 26, 2025 . This new program aims to combine technology with creative design skills. Admission to this program will be through national entrance exams: JEE Advanced and UCEED .
About the New Design Program
The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is offering a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree in Design. This program is for students who want to become innovators and work in design. It will teach students how to blend new technologies with creative thinking, preparing them for future challenges in design.
The program will have a limited number of seats to ensure high-quality education. Only 20 students will be accepted each year. This small class size helps students learn deeply, get personal attention, and work together closely on projects. This approach is followed by many top design schools around the world.
What Students Will Learn
Students in the B.Tech in Design program will study various important subjects over 4 years . They must complete a total of 155 credits during this period. The curriculum is designed to give students a strong base in both technical and creative areas. Key learning areas include:
- Prevalent Technologies: Understanding the latest technologies used in design and industry.
- Design Thinking Processes: Learning how to solve problems creatively by focusing on user needs. This involves steps like understanding a problem, coming up with ideas, creating prototypes, and testing them.
- Research Methods: How to study and analyze socio-technical systems, which means understanding how people and technology interact.
- Communication & Presentation Skills: Developing strong ways to share ideas and present design concepts effectively.
- Teamwork: Working with others on design projects, a key skill for any professional designer.
How to Get Admission
To get into the B.Tech in Design program at IIT Delhi, students must clear two important national entrance exams:
| Admission Pathway | Required Entrance Exams |
| B.Tech in Design at IIT Delhi | JEE Advanced and UCEED |
The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced is a national exam for admission to undergraduate engineering and science programs at all Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). The Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) is specifically for admission to Bachelor of Design (B.Des) programs in various participating institutes, including some IITs. For IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Design, candidates need to appear for both these exams.
It is important to note that only candidates who secure a merit rank in UCEED are eligible to participate in the seat allotment process. During the UCEED exam, the Part B answer sheet is evaluated only if a student has qualified in Part A of the exam. The final seat allotment depends on the candidate's merit rank in UCEED and their college choices during counseling.
Online Open House for Aspirants
The Department of Design at IIT Delhi will host an online Open House on October 26, 2025 . This session is designed for students who are planning to join the new B.Tech in Design program in 2026. An Open House is a great chance for students to learn more about the program directly from the institute, ask questions about the curriculum, facilities, and future prospects, and understand the admission process better. Holding this session online makes it easy for more students from different parts of the country to attend without needing to travel.
Exciting Career Opportunities in Design
