The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, and the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT Gandhinagar) have officially joined hands. They signed a special agreement to work together on academics and research. This partnership aims to boost learning, share knowledge, and strengthen research activities for students and teachers at both top institutes. It also creates new pathways for students to pursue advanced studies and connect with leading researchers.
Main Goals of the Partnership
This agreement, known as a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), offers several key benefits for students and faculty. It will enable people from both IISc and IIT Gandhinagar to:
- Joint Research Projects: Students and professors can team up on research projects in various fields like science and engineering. This combines strengths and resources for complex problems.
- Access to Facilities: Participants will use each other's advanced laboratories and equipment. This broadens learning and research possibilities.
- Student Exchange Programs: IIT Gandhinagar students can study or do research at IISc for some time. This helps them experience a new academic environment and learn from different mentors.
- Workshops and Seminars: Both institutes will host joint workshops, conferences, and training sessions to share new ideas and skills.
New Opportunity for IIT Gandhinagar BTech Students
A major feature of this collaboration is a special new program for BTech students from IIT Gandhinagar. It offers a direct path to a Master's degree at IISc.
- Direct Entry: Students finishing their third year of BTech studies at IIT Gandhinagar can apply directly for an MTech program at IISc.
- One Selection Process: Students will go through one unified selection process to enter the IISc MTech program, making the transition smoother.
- Dual Degrees: Selected students will join IISc for MTech. They will receive their BTech degree from IIT Gandhinagar and their MTech degree from IISc upon completion. This gives them degrees from two top institutions.
- Many MTech Options: IISc offers over two dozen special Master's degree programs . This ensures students have many choices for advanced study that match their interests.
This new system provides a clear academic progression for bright students, helping them pursue higher education at a leading institution without unnecessary hurdles.
