Students applying for the Bachelor of Technology (BTech) course at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru will now go through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) for admissions. This change starts from the academic year 2026 onwards. Previously, IISc managed its own admission process for the BTech program.
The BTech program offered at IISc is in Mathematics and Computing. Admission to this course has always been based on the rank obtained in the JEE Advanced exam. Until last year, interested students needed to fill out a separate application form on the IISc website and then participate in the institute's own counselling and admission process.
Using JoSAA for admissions aims to make the process simpler and more organised for students. From June 2, 2026, students will be able to register on the official JoSAA portal, josaa.nic.in, to be considered for admission to IISc's BTech course.
IISc offers two main undergraduate programs: the BTech in Mathematics & Computing and a BS in Research. While BTech admissions are through JEE Advanced, the BS program uses the IISER Admission Test (IAT) for admissions.
Students who wish to appear for JEE Advanced must first qualify in the JEE Main exam. The JEE Main 2026 exam is conducted in two sessions. The first session is scheduled to end on January 28, 2026. The JEE Advanced 2026 exam itself will be held on May 17, 2026. Applications for JEE Advanced 2026 for foreign nationals will begin on April 6, 2026. Indian candidates can start applying from April 23, 2026.
This new system means that students will only need to manage their applications and seat allocation through one central authority, JoSAA, for multiple engineering colleges, including IISc.
