The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore will now join the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) for its Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) program admissions starting from the academic year 2026-27. This means students applying for IISc's B.Tech. course will go through the same counseling process as the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee announced on January 26, 2026, that IISc Bangalore's B.Tech. admissions will use ranks from the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2026. Previously, IISc Bangalore managed its own admission process using JEE Advanced scores.

IISc Bangalore offers a 4-year B.Tech. program in Mathematics and Computing. There are a total of 52 seats available. This includes 40 seats for general candidates, 8 seats reserved for women candidates (making up 20% of the total), and 4 seats for foreign nationals or Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) candidates.

IISc Joins JoSAA for B.Tech Admissions

For the first time, IISc Bangalore's B.Tech. program will be part of the JoSAA counselling. This brings IISc Bangalore onto the same platform as the 23 IITs for seat allocation. Students will now see IISc Bangalore listed along with IITs when filling out their choices during the counselling period.

Key Changes with JoSAA Participation

  • One Platform: Students can compare and choose seats at IISc Bangalore and top IITs on the same screen during choice filling.
  • Uniform Process: The entire admission process, from applying to accepting a seat and submitting documents, will be the same for IISc Bangalore as it is for other leading engineering institutes.
  • Centralized Application: From 2026, students will not need to apply separately to IISc Bangalore for its B.Tech program. All applications will be handled through the JoSAA portal.

Admission Requirements

To be considered for a seat at IISc Bangalore or any IIT, students must first clear the JEE Main exam. After that, they need to qualify for the JEE Advanced exam. The JEE Advanced 2026 exam is scheduled for May 17, 2026 .

The JoSAA 2026 counselling process is expected to begin in the first week of June 2026 .

Previous Year's Cutoff at IISc Bangalore

Getting a seat at IISc Bangalore is highly competitive. For many of its programs, the acceptance rate is less than 2%.
