The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) launched the Mattu Centre for Research in Security Pricing and Corporate Finance on July 13, 2026 . The centre aims to boost finance research in India. It focuses on asset pricing, corporate finance, corporate governance, and financial economics.
Centre Objectives and Support
The Mattu Centre's primary goal is to build a strong financial database and advanced analytical tools for research. This initiative is supported by philanthropic funding from IIMA alumnus Ravi Mattu, PGP 1979 batch. Mattu is a former Managing Director and Global Head of Analytics.
The centre will improve access to reliable information. It will support evidence-based work in market microstructure, asset pricing, and corporate finance. The centre also aims to foster collaboration across academic disciplines. It plans to create opportunities for scholars studying Indian capital markets.
Activities and Collaboration
The Mattu Centre will host seminars, conferences, and workshops. Distinguished lectures will also be organized. These events will connect researchers, industry professionals, policymakers, and regulators. The aim is to address real challenges within the financial system.
The centre will also encourage joint research between Indian and US faculty. It will facilitate dialogue with Indian regulators. A comprehensive securities price database is a key objective.
Governance and Leadership
A governing council will oversee the Mattu Centre. IIMA Director Prof. Bharat Bhaskar chairs this council. Professor Joshy Jacob and Ellapuli Vasudevan serve as co-chairpersons. Other members include Ravi Mattu, Prof. R Naranayaswamy (former IIM B faculty), Prof. Vaidyanathan Venkateshwaran (New York University Stern School of Business), and Rajan Raju (Director of Invespar Pte Ltd).
Prof. Bharat Bhaskar stated that India's growing global financial market requires addressing structural issues. He emphasized the need for strong, India-specific databases. Ravi Mattu highlighted the centre's role in supporting early-career finance researchers in India.
Funding and Future Goals
The Mattu Centre is funded through the IIMA Endowment Fund. This fund accepts support from alumni, corporations, individuals, and CSR partners. IIMA intends to build long-term research capacity. The centre will encourage innovation and support management education and public policy.
