IIIT Delhi: New Computer Science & Economics B.Tech, No Fee Hike

NEW DELHI: Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT Delhi) has introduced India's first B.Tech program in Computer Science and Economics. This new course adds 20 seats to the institute. Students interested in this program can apply through JEE (Main) exams. A big relief for many, IIIT Delhi has also kept its tuition fees unchanged for the fourth year in a row for all its undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

The announcement came during IIIT Delhi's 14th Convocation ceremony, where 780 students received their degrees. The institute's Director, Professor Ranjan Bose, highlighted the launch of several new programs aimed at solving real-world challenges.

India's First Computer Science and Economics B.Tech

The new B.Tech in Computer Science and Economics is a unique program in India. It is designed for students who want to understand both technology and money matters. Students in this course will learn to look at economic systems and create digital solutions using computing skills. Professor Bose explained that this course helps bridge the gap between technology and finance, preparing students for many future jobs.

Admissions for this and other programs have already started. Students from the Delhi-NCR region have a special advantage, as 85 per cent of the seats are reserved for them.

No Fee Hike for Fourth Consecutive Year

IIIT Delhi has confirmed that it will not increase tuition fees for the fourth year in a row. This applies to all its degree programs. The institute's Dean stated that despite adding new courses and facilities, the fee structure has remained the same. This decision provides financial stability for current and incoming students. The next review of the fees is expected in February 2026 .

Other New Programs and International Partnerships

Besides the new B.Tech program, IIIT Delhi has launched other important courses:

  • Joint M.Tech Program with France: IIIT Delhi has partnered with Université Côte d’Azur, France . This program allows three students from each university to study at the partner institution. Both sides will provide scholarships for these students.
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI): This new diploma focuses on designing technology that is easy and enjoyable for people to use. It teaches students to put human needs first when creating digital tools.
  • Minor in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI): A smaller version of the HCI diploma, also focusing on human-centred design principles.

14th Convocation Celebrates Graduates

The announcements about new programs and fees were made during IIIT Delhi's 14th Convocation ceremony. At this event, 780 students from undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels received their degrees.

Dr. Anand Deshpande , the Founder and Chairman of Persistent Systems, was the main speaker at the convocation. Delhi's Lieutenant Governor and Chancellor, Mr. Vinai Kumar Saxena , and Chairman of the Board of Governors, Professor Rajesh Srivastava , were also present. They praised the institute's strong focus on research and teaching different subjects together.

In his report, Professor Ranjan Bose shared a key message with the graduates. He said, "We teach our students to treat challenges as opportunities—to think differently, learn from mistakes, and realise their full potential." This message encouraged students to face future challenges with a positive mindset.
