Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has opened admissions for nine one-year Master's degree programs. These courses are designed for students who have completed a four-year undergraduate degree, including Honors or Honors with Research programs. The university developed these programs in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020's 4+1 model. This offers a faster route to postgraduate study compared to traditional two-year Master's degrees.
The one-year Master's programs cover disciplines in Humanities, Social Sciences, Commerce, and Media. They include M.A. Economics, M.A. Sociology, M.A. History, M.A. Journalism & Mass Communication, M.A. English, M.A. Hindi, M.A. Sanskrit, M.A. Urdu, and M.Com. These degrees are awarded through Open and Distance Learning (ODL). IGNOU states these degrees hold legal equivalence to conventional two-year Master's degrees. They fulfill eligibility requirements for UGC-NET, Ph.D. admissions, UPSC, and other central and state government competitive exams.
