The Journey to Becoming a PO: Exam Stages
The selection process for IBPS RRB PO involves different stages. Understanding these stages is important for all candidates:
1. Preliminary Exam Result
This is the first stage. It is a screening test for Officer Scale I and Office Assistant posts. The exam has **80 objective-type questions** from Reasoning Ability and Numerical Ability, with a total of **80 marks**. Candidates must pass both the overall cut-off marks and the cut-off marks for each subject to qualify. Enough candidates are chosen for the Mains exam based on the number of vacancies available.
2. Main Examination / Single Level Exam Result
The Mains exam is the second stage for Officer Scale I and Office Assistant posts. For Officer Scale II and III, there is a single-level exam instead of separate prelims and mains. The Mains exam has **200 objective-type questions** covering Reasoning Ability, Numerical Ability, General Awareness, English/Hindi Language, and Computer Knowledge. The total marks for the Mains exam are **200**. Candidates for Officer Scale I, II, and III must get a minimum score in each test and overall to be considered for the interview round. For Office Assistant posts, selection is based directly on the Mains exam scores, without an interview.
3. Interview / Final Result
Candidates who qualify in the Mains/Single Level exams for Officer Scale I, II, and III posts are called for an interview. Usually, about three times the number of vacancies are called for the interview. The interview carries **100 marks**, and candidates must achieve a minimum score in this round as well. The interview results are announced along with the final results. The final selection for Officer Scale I, II, and III posts is based on a combined score from the Mains exam and the interview, with a weightage of **80% for Mains exam** and **20% for the interview**. For Office Assistant posts, only the Mains exam score is considered for final selection.
