The Indian Air Force (IAF) has opened applications for the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) 1 2026. This is a chance for students to join the IAF as officers. Applications started on November 17, 2025 , and will close on December 14, 2025 . A total of 340 vacancies are available for men and women across Flying, Ground Duty (Technical), and Ground Duty (Non-Technical) branches.

AFCAT is a national exam held to select candidates for officer roles in the Indian Air Force. It allows individuals to serve the nation in various capacities.

Vacancies and Branches

The IAF aims to fill 340 officer positions through AFCAT 1 2026. These roles are divided into three main branches:

  • Flying Branch: For those who will become pilots, flying various aircraft.
  • Ground Duty (Technical) Branch: For engineers who will manage and maintain the Air Force's technical equipment.
  • Ground Duty (Non-Technical) Branch: For roles in administration, logistics, accounting, education, and air traffic control, ensuring ground operations run smoothly.

How to Apply for AFCAT 1 2026

Candidates must apply online through the official AFCAT website. Follow these steps:

  • Go to afcat.cdac.in .
  • Click the 'Apply Now' link.
  • Complete the registration.
  • Log in and fill out the application form.
  • Pay the application fee.
  • Submit the form and print a copy.

Selection Process Overview

The selection process to become an IAF officer has three main stages:

1. Written Test

Candidates first take the AFCAT written exam. This test covers General Awareness, English, Numerical Ability, Reasoning, and Military Aptitude. It helps identify candidates with basic knowledge and skills.

2. Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) Interview

Those who clear the written test proceed to the AFSB. This stage has two parts. Stage 1 involves an Intelligence Test and a Picture Perception and Discussion Test. Stage 2 includes psychological tests, group tasks, and a personal interview, assessing personality and leadership qualities.

3. Medical Examination

Finally, candidates undergo a medical examination to ensure they meet the health standards required by the Indian Air Force. A final All-India merit list is created based on their performance in all stages.

NCC Special Entry

NCC Air Wing Senior Division 'C' Certificate holders have a special entry option for the Flying Branch. 10% of seats are reserved from Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE) vacancies, and another 10% from AFCAT vacancies for this branch.
