The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) has made an important decision for students taking Class 10 and 12 exams. From the 2026 board examinations onwards, all sets of question papers (Series A, B, and C) for each subject will have the same questions . This change aims to ensure fairness for every student across all subjects.

The Need for Standardised Question Papers

Previously, HPBOSE used to provide three different sets of question papers (Series A, B, and C) for a number of subjects. For Class 10 , these subjects included English, Hindi, Mathematics, Science & Technology, Social Science, and Sanskrit . In Class 12 , subjects like English, History, Economics, Political Science, Hindi, Sanskrit, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Accountancy, and Business Studies also had these multiple paper sets.

The main issue with this system was that the difficulty level could vary between the different series. For example, some students might receive a question paper from Series A that was easier, while others might get a paper from Series B that was tougher. This difference in difficulty led to a feeling of injustice among students. It meant that students were not always assessed on the same level, making the evaluation process less fair.

How the New Exam Pattern Will Work

To address these concerns and make the examination system more just, the HPBOSE Chairman has approved a significant reform. Under the new HPBOSE exam pattern, all three series of question papers (A, B, and C) will now contain the identical set of questions for a given subject. This crucial step will eliminate any differences in the difficulty level between the papers students receive.

However, to maintain the security and integrity of the examination, the board will shuffle or jumble the order of the questions within each series. This means that while the content of the questions will be the same across all series, the sequence in which they appear will be different. This prevents students from easily copying answers from their neighbours, even though everyone is answering the same questions.

This standardisation will ensure that every student faces the exact same challenge and is judged on an equal footing. It is a big step towards promoting greater equality and transparency in the entire examination process for Class 10 and 12 board exams.

Implementation and Scope

HPBOSE has clearly stated that this new exam pattern will be put into practice starting from the current academic session . Therefore, all students who will sit for their Class 10 and 12 board examinations in 2026 will follow this revised system. This important change will be applicable to all schools across Himachal Pradesh that are affiliated with the HPBOSE board.
