About the HP NMMS Exam

The HP NMMS exam is a state-level test held in an offline, pen-and-paper format. It is designed to evaluate the mental ability and academic knowledge of Class 8 students. The exam has two main parts:

  • Mental Ability Test (MAT): This section checks a student's thinking and problem-solving skills. It includes questions on reasoning, analysis, and general mental ability.
  • Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT): This part tests a student's knowledge from subjects taught in Class 7 and Class 8. It covers Science, Social Science, and Mathematics.

HP NMMS Selection Process 2025

The selection process for the HP NMMS scholarship is straightforward. Students must pass the state-level examination and meet certain eligibility criteria. Here are the steps involved:

  • Step 1: Exam Application and Test: Students first apply for the scholarship exam and then appear for the MAT and SAT tests. The exam assesses their readiness for higher education.
  • Step 2: Merit List Release: After the exam, the Himachal Pradesh State Council of Educational Research and Training (HP SCERT) evaluates all answer sheets. They then prepare a final merit list. This list contains the names of candidates who performed well enough to qualify for the scholarship based on their combined scores in MAT and SAT.
  • Step 3: Registration on National Scholarship Portal: Students whose names appear on the final merit list are selected for the scholarship. These selected students must then register on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) 2.0 . This online portal is managed by the Government of India and is essential for receiving scholarship funds.
  • Step 4: Scholarship Disbursement: Once registered and verified on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) , the scholarship amount of INR 12,000 per year is disbursed to the selected students. This financial aid is provided each year from Class 9 until Class 12, helping them complete their secondary education.

The NMMS is a central sector scheme by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. It aims to reduce school dropout rates among students from economically weaker sections after Class 8. By providing financial support, the scholarship encourages students to continue their education and achieve their academic goals.
