Himachal Pradesh Schools Remove Caste from Admissions

Himachal Pradesh schools will no longer include a caste column on admission forms. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu issued the directive. The change begins with the 2027-28 academic session . This move aims to prevent caste discrimination. It seeks to ensure all students are treated equally. The government wants students to avoid feeling inferior. It also aims to stop bias in schools.

Caste details will still be collected for government welfare schemes. This ensures eligible students receive benefits. The decision was announced at a Himachal Pradesh Scheduled Caste Welfare Board meeting. Promoting unity among students is a key goal. Removing caste from forms helps students learn without social barriers. It prevents young children from feeling different. Caste details will be kept private for welfare programs only. This protects data while ensuring aid reaches the intended recipients.

State Welfare Programs Announced

Alongside the school admission change, CM Sukhu outlined several welfare initiatives. These programs support needy families, students, and businesses. The Rajiv Gandhi Start-up Swarozgar Saur Yojana offers solar project subsidies. Subsidies range from 4% to 5%. This targets local entrepreneurs.

The Higher Education Loan Scheme provides financial aid for further studies. Students can access loans up to ₹20 lakh . The interest rate is a low 1%. This helps meritorious students continue their education. It removes financial barriers to higher learning.

The Apna Parivar Sukhi Parivar Yojana targets extremely poor families. Eligible families will receive 300 units of free electricity . Women from these families will get a monthly pension. The pension amount is ₹1,500 .
