Instead of a uniform statewide rule, each district administration will assess rainfall and local hazards. Deputy commissioners will evaluate road conditions, landslide risks, and overall safety before deciding on school operations. Minister Negi stated that student safety is the primary concern. District officers are instructed to act with caution.
Heavy Rain Alert Issued
The Shimla Meteorological Centre has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall. This alert is in effect for five days, from July 19 to July 23, 2026 . A heavy rain warning is also in place for July 23.
Rainfall Data and Safety Warnings
Several areas reported significant rainfall on Saturday. Jot in Chamba recorded 109 mm of rain since Friday evening. Kangra received 77.4 mm , and Palampur recorded 38 mm . Thunderstorms and lightning were also reported in Kangra and Jot. Officials warn that heavy rain can cause landslides, mudslides, and flash floods. Rivers and drains may also overflow. Residents are advised to monitor weather updates and traffic advisories.
