The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for July 31. Monsoon activity remains high across India. Thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds are also forecast. Many regions will experience significant rainfall. Some areas face extremely heavy downpours.
Nationwide Rain Forecast
North India expects widespread rain from July 30 to August 4. Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Uttarakhand are among the affected states. Punjab, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, and parts of Uttar Pradesh will also see rain. Rajasthan may receive intense showers.
Central India's monsoon remains strong. Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh face very heavy to extreme rainfall. East India anticipates widespread rain and thunderstorms. Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, and West Bengal are under watch.
Northeast India is already dealing with floods. Arunachal Pradesh and Assam have experienced heavy rainfall. West India's Konkan and Goa, Maharashtra, and Gujarat will receive monsoon showers.
South India will see rain in Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.

School Closures Announced
In Gujarat, Ahmedabad and Vadodara schools and colleges are closed until Friday. This follows a red alert for extreme heavy rain. Punjab schools will be closed on July 31 due to a public holiday.
Odisha has ordered schools in one district to close. Students were sent home early. Mid-day meals were served in advance. Schools in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra may close based on local conditions. District authorities will issue separate orders if needed.
