Severe heatwaves are forcing school closures and timing changes across several Indian states. Temperatures exceeding 44°C are impacting students in Delhi, Patna, Dehradun, and other regions. Authorities are prioritizing student safety by revising academic schedules and announcing early holidays.
Patna Schools Shift Hours
In Patna, Bihar, schools for students in Classes 1 to 8 will now operate until 11:30 AM. This order began on April 27. The goal is to limit student exposure to peak afternoon heat. High temperatures can cause dehydration and heat-related illnesses.
Dehradun Closes All Schools
Dehradun, Uttarakhand, has ordered the complete closure of all schools. This directive affects students in Classes 1 through 12. Anganwadi centers are also closed. The decision reflects the severity of the ongoing heatwave.
Delhi-NCR Adjusts Schedule
Delhi has not announced full school closures. Instead, it has implemented a Heat Action Plan for 2026. Schools are advised to provide ORS solutions. A "water bell" system will promote regular hydration. Outdoor activities are restricted from 11 AM to 4 PM.
Nearby Noida has revised school timings. Classes will now run from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM. This applies to all school boards, including CBSE and ICSE.
Other States Modify Timings
Multiple states have moved school hours to early mornings. This strategy aims to avoid the hottest parts of the day.

| Rajasthan (Sikar) | 7:30 AM – 11:30 AM |
