Haryana government will convert existing government colleges into Model Sanskriti Colleges. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced this plan on March 16, 2024 , at Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUST) in Hisar. The goal is to provide world-class higher education accessible to all youth in the state.
College Upgrade Initiative
This upgrade aligns Haryana's education sector with global industry and academic standards. It aims to reduce educational quality gaps across the state. Rural and semi-urban students will gain access to infrastructure and learning environments comparable to premier colleges.
The state has already established 22 Model Sanskriti Colleges. This initiative is part of a larger plan to rebuild the state's educational ecosystem under the National Education Policy (NEP). The philosophy guiding this overhaul is 'Re-design, Re-imagine, and Re-invest'.
Focus on Future Skills
The state is integrating skills training from school through university levels. The education system now reflects the needs of future sectors. These include artificial intelligence (AI), green technology, semiconductor ecosystems, data analysis, cybersecurity, and robotics.
Programs like the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) in schools and the PAHAL program in colleges aim to connect learning with industry requirements.
Infrastructure and Research Funding
Chief Minister Saini also inaugurated and laid foundation stones for development projects totaling ₹7.58 crore at GJUST.
- New Girls' Hostel: Foundation laid for a hostel costing ₹6 crore.
- Nursing Department Building: Inaugurated a ₹1.40 crore building. It will be named after former Chief Minister Chaudhary Bhajan Lal.
Additionally, ₹ 20 crore was allocated to the Haryana State Research Fund for the financial year 2020. This funding supports innovation in higher education. Approximately 90 research proposals have been selected from university teachers and students in the program's first cycle.
